Abstract
Introduction: Anxiety is an emotional response commonly experienced by students, especially when facing practical examinations such as the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). This examination is structured and requires direct clinical skills performance, which can trigger anxiety and affect students’ performance. Methods: This study used a descriptive design with a survey approach. The sample consisted of 49 third-semester students selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T) questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents were 19 years old and female. All respondents had prior experience with OSCE and most received family support. The anxiety level of students was predominantly in the very severe category (46.9%), followed by severe (38.8%), moderate (12.2%), and a small proportion in the mild category (2.0%). Conclusion: Most undergraduate nursing students at Mulawarman University experience very high levels of anxiety when facing the OSCE. This indicates that OSCE remains a significant source of stress, and appropriate interventions are needed to help students manage their anxiety effectively.
